questions & answers...

Frequently Asked Questions

what trades do your workshops cover?
All of our workshops are entry-level and beginner-friendly. We cover most of the building and repair trades, with a focus on building maintenance and home repair. Many of our workshops involve multiple trades, which seems to have a better effect at retaining students' attention and participation throughout the day. The main trades that we cover are Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry, Drywall, Painting, Cleaning, and HVAC. Once again, these workshops are designed with repair people in mind, and do not go into great detail about building codes, etc. Some codes will be discussed, especially related to safety, but we find that before you can teach any "codes", you must first teach the "concepts". Our main focus is on developing new technical skills and understanding, improving confidence, and forming better communication skills.
What other topics are discussed in your workshops?
Two of the other points that we try to focus on are self-improvement and community awareness. A good maintenance technician will see the "whole" community. We try to teach community awareness to all of our attendees, as this is an essential part of being a "community leader" (which all maintenance techs are by default). Property Maintenance and Building Repair is the one area where "Not my job" goes out the window. When you are a building maintenance technician... "Everything is your job!" It is with this spirit that we try to promote self-education and constant self-improvement, as we believe that skills and knowledge go hand in hand. The more knowledge you have, the more skilled you will be as a technician. The building trades are always developing and improving, and so therefore, the repair technician must seek to develop and improve their own knowledge and skills along the way, or run the risk of being "left behind". Self-ownership of your own education is critical to self-improvement.
Are these workshops for Maintenance technicians only?
Certainly not! Our workshops are designed for everyone, and can be customized to suit the individual needs of any particular group. In fact, we have several different styles of workshops available.. some being more suited for housing employees, while others might be better suited for team building or cross-training, and still others can be designed for improving the community at the same time. We are also open to working with Homeschooling Groups to present our workshop ideas to younger folks, perhaps as Lessons in Adulting, or as Community Awareness Activities, or even as Real-World Science Projects. To learn more... visit the WORKSHOPS page.
how much do these workshops cost?
A two day workshop is 15 Contact Hours long, and is billed at a rate of $30/hour/person... which equals $450/person. A four day workshop is 30 Contact Hours long, and is billed at a rate of $25/hour/person... which comes out to $750/person. All workshops have a 15 person minimum requirement. Visit ON-SITES for more.
Is there a deposit required?
Yes, a deposit is required, but under certain circumstances it can be waived. The deposit is calculated at a rate of $1000/day, for each full-day of training ordered. Our workshops are either two days or four days long, and so therefore, the deposits are $2000 and $4000, respectively. To learn more, visit the ON-SITES page.
what is the refund policy for deposits?
Our policy for refunding deposits is as follows:
  • In the case of any rescheduling, the deposit will simply be transfered to the new dates.
  • In the case of a cancellation by Training For Tomorrow, the deposit will be fully refunded.
  • If the workshop is cancelled by the client MORE than 30 days prior to the scheduled dates, then 50% of the deposit will be refunded.
  • If the workshop is cancelled by the client LESS than 30 days prior to the scheduled dates, then the deposit will be NON-REFUNDABLE.
is there a minimum attendance requirement?
Yes, we have currently lowered our Minimum Attendance requirements to 15 people for all of our 15hr and 30hr Workshops. Several conditions may allow us to lower that number further, for example, if multiple workshops are delivered consecutively, or if the location is closer to our home office. More information can be found on the page title, ON-SITES.
can we order a workshop if we have less than the minimum students?
Yes, but then the minimum attendance rate would then become the minimum price. In other words, if the rate is $750/Person for a 30-Hour workshop, and there is a minimum attendance requirement of 15 people... then the Minimum Price would be $11,250. ($750/person x 15 people = 11,250). This would then be the price for the workshop, whether 10 people show, or 15 people show... the price would be $11,250 for up to 15 people. If more people actually show up, then additional admission fees would be charged for them (or we can just cap attendance at 15). So essentially, 11,250 would be used as the "Fixed Price" for up to 15 people. For a Two-Day (15hr) Workshop, that minimum fee would be $6,750, as the rate is $450/Person for the shorter workshops, also with a 15 person minimum. Learn more at our ON-SITES page.
What hourly schedules do the workshops follow?
Unless amended by the Hosting Organization, our typical daily schedule for a 30-Hour class will be 8:00am-5:00pm, each day for 4 days. That produces 7.5 Contact Hours of training per day (multiplied by 4 days = 30 hours). If these days are too long for some, we do have the option of doing a 30-Hour Workshop over five days instead. The 5-Day Schedule would typically be something like 8:00am-3:30pm, which produces 6 Contact Hours of training each day (multiplied by 5 days = 30 hours). We are open to being flexible with the schedule, as we understand that some groups will have restrictions on time availability.
What is a "contact hour"?
A "Contact-Hour" is the term used to describe the amount of time that a student actually spends with a trainer. Lunches and breaks do NOT count as time with the trainer, because that time does not count as "Educational". So a 30-Hour class represents 30 Contact-Hours of training... not 30 total hours of time. The industry standard is to conduct no more than 7.5 Contact-Hours of training per day, with some opting for only 6 Contact-Hours per day. It is important to know (or figure out) how many Contact-Hours a class provides, in order to compare prices between workshops. In fact, without the Contact-Hour information, it can be difficult to conduct a cost analysis comparison between workshops from two different companies. If one does not start with the Contact-Hour Length of the program, then it will be tricky to figure out the Cost-Per-Hour of the training... which is the true comparison of prices.
how are lunches and breaks dealt with?
We typically take a full-hour for lunch and two fifteen-minute breaks each day, one mid-morning and one mid-afternoon. Lunches are NOT provided... however, sometimes the Hosting Organization will elect to provide lunches for all of the attendees. This is completely up to the Hosting Organization, otherwise it's "bring your own".
What kind of covid-19 precautions does your company use?
We will be providing standard PPE materials, such as hand sanitizer, surface disinfectant spray, and disposable 3-Ply facemasks. Any additional precautions can be provided for by the Hosting Organization. There are many other methods that can be used to help reduce the chances of spreading airborne illnesses. To learn more about some of these other strategies, visit our COVID-19 page.
Are facemasks or covid-19 vaccines mandatory at these events?
To be clear, these are "Events" in that, often people who are not direct family members or co-workers end up mingling together in a group environment... essentially the same thing as a public gathering... and we will be following any local directives. Outside of that, the level of Covid-19 precautions will be determined by the Hosting Organization (the group who pays for the workshop). Vaccinated-Only Training Sessions are one option, and we are fully vaccinated. Learn more at our COVID-19 page.
