flexible training...

We Offer Several Different Styles of Training

Although Training For Tomorrow is a newer company, as sub-contractors we have been designing and delivering Hands-On Training to locations around the Country for over twenty years. One of the main reasons we started our own business was to have more freedom with how we design our workshops. In fact, we have expanded our range of workshops to now include several different styles of Hands-On Training. We are currently developing our new Skill-Builder Series (SBS) of workshops, which eliminates the workbooks and much of the lecture-time in order to maximize tool-time... as well as expanding our popular Classic Hands-On Training (HOT) workshops.

Project-Based Training (PBT) is a new style of training, which aims to achieve an even higher level of student involvement by working on real projects instead of mock-ups. With this type of workshop, there is more of an emphasis on collaboration and teamwork, creativity, decision-making, and a personal connection to one's work. Each student group will have a combination of larger and smaller projects to choose from. With options along the way, participants must have discussions, make decisions, and work together to complete the projects. Each class ends with a group discussion period where projects are presented to the rest of the class. Projects can be donated, raffled, or taken home by students.

And finally, we have a new type of workshop that is based around what we are calling a Community Improvement Project (CIP), also known as a Custom Training Event (CTE). We have created this workshop platform in order to allow the utilization of training time, training funds, and student power to construct or work on a larger community project (with training along the way...) similar to an "On-The-Job Training" experience. These workshops will be a customized experience for each occasion, and can include a wide variety of projects and activities.

Below you will find a comparison guide to help you choose which style might best suit your group's needs, as well as a list of our available workshop titles.

Classic Hands-On Training:
These workshops are conducted using many of the training techniques found in any typical hands-on training session. Starting with workbooks, handouts or other reading material, the instructor will usually bounce back and forth between lectures and hands-on activities. Display items and demonstrations are a common element, and occasionally a video or short slide show might be shown. Questions are always welcome, and group discussions are encouraged. Typically, about 50% of the class time is spent doing hands-on activities, with the rest of the time being filled with lectures, demonstrations and discussions.

Skill-Builder Series - Hands-On Two-Day Training:

Some people learn well with books and lectures, others do better with videos and demonstrations... but when it's Hands-On Training... everybody learns! For whatever the reason, most people just learn better when the lessons are visual and tactile. The Skill-Builder Series was designed with this in mind, and all skill-levels are welcome at these beginner-friendly workshops. Project-Based Training:
Based on the principles of Project-Based Learning, the idea for this type of workshop is to increase each student's investment in the training exercises by swapping out the mock-ups... and instead replacing them with actual projects that will actually be used. Either through a raffle, donations, or maybe even taken home to be used by the students themselves, this brings an element of reality to the projects, inspiring better teamwork and more attention to detail than many other forms of training. Another element that encourages participation is having certain aspects of the project discussed and decided upon by all the individuals of the group. This creates the need for social interaction as they evaluate the options and decide upon a course of action. Even towards the end of the workshop when all of the projects are presented to the entire class, this is yet another component that draws out collaboration and team effort from the participants. We are happy to present this new style of workshop, as we believe it will prove to be a valuable new addition to the world of vocational training.

Custom Training Event/Community Improvement Project:
These are basically custom workshops that are focused around a larger project that benefits the local community or improves a property. Designed as a way to uncover the hidden training potential within the framework of a construction project, the goal is to achieve a more memorable and tangible learning experience for the participants. The idea is to create real-world situations that facilitate teamwork and reinforce positive work ethics, while at the same time improve the overall community in a visible way. That is what makes these such a memorable experience... for a student to be able to actually show people what they did in class... this creates a sense of pride that simply cannot be duplicated in a classroom. Below you will find a list of some ideas for potential CTE/CIP Workshops... and we are happy to discuss any other ideas, as well.
